As a painter I am essentially concerned with the search to find and convey a sense of balance between chaos and order. It could be seen as an extension of my life in general; a synthesis of the organised and the unexpected.
So what stirs my imagination and gets my paint brush shaking? There are two key factors. The first is my passion for music - the kind that grabs you and moves your body to its rhythm until you are completely consumed by it. (I come from a long line of musicians on both sides of my family).
Second, is the environment of New Zealand, in particular the region of Taranaki. My homeland is a huge source of inspiration. It’s openness, strength and clarity of light is unique to this part of the world. The view from my studio is of the Tasman Sea and behind me is Mt Taranaki. Where else can you go skiing in the morning then surfing in the afternoon.
